This Appendix shows morphological structures of Polistes with their terminology. The terminology used herein comes primarily from three sources: Duncan (1939), Snodgrass (1956), and Buck et al. (2012). This is not a comprehensive treatment of Vespidae morphology, instead the focus is on the structures used in the diagnosis of eastern Nearctic Polistinae and Vespinae species.
